Or so we think. It hides in the algae (which it’s eating madly) so it’s almost as hard to get a good look as a good picture. There are also half a dozen somewhat larger (two inch) charcoal grey fish in there, none of which we’d seen before today. At the rate the salmon colored

We were out sitting in the gazebo after work last night, enjoying a glass of wine, ready to veg the night away. We were both talking about how low on energy we were. In particular, I was griping about being sore because of how hard we’d worked all weekend. We were looking out at the

Today we mostly cut lumber from the trees that we’ve previously dropped. In particular, there was a huge oak log that Frank had dropped some time before the fire. We backed the truck up to it, pulled it out, and found that half of it had rotted away. Frank was convinced there was still some

Lisa’s home, and we got a good Saturday afternoon in the garden. She deadheaded the lambs ear to the annoyance of the local bumble bees who were still chowing down. Needless to say, there were a bunch of other flower stalks ready to go, including our two poppy blossoms. She’s planning to try to start

I did some puttering outside the last two nights. Yesterday, I mowed the lawn and hauled in two cartloads of firewood. It’s rotten stuff from ‘96, but we need to do something with it. I also checked out the mushroom beds while I was down there: nothing showing. It’s way too soon, of course, but

Our second day with the sawmill was as fun as the first. I’m assuming we won’t always be so thrilled, but for now, I’m still documenting our progress madly. One of the things I found really interesting is that in 1995, when we were clearing for the main garden, we cut down a huge oak

I tried to introduce the cats to the catnip plant that I planted earlier this year. I caught Yoda chewing on my clematis earlier in the evening, and I hate to scold him because he’s such a scaredy cat and I don’t want to scare him, but c’mon. Not on my clematis! None of them

Because we spent the majority of the weekend doing stuff out in the new garden, not much got done in the flower gardens at all. So we went out after work today, really just to do a walk-through because we thought the bugs would be awful, and ended up staying outside for a couple of

We used the sawmill for the first time today. Great fun and very productive. By the way, the mill is the 13 horse model from SMG Morewood. I shopped pretty hard and this one seems competitive with the Norwood and the Woodmizer LT15, and it’s two grand less than the Woodmizer and one grand less

It’s hard to believe that this is my first real deadheading run on the window boxes, but I don’t think the boxes themselves really took off until the cold and rainy June weather stopped. So once hot and sunny July started, we got a couple of weeks of gorgeous growth on the whole set, but
