Done.

The coop is done. Not perfect, but awfully cute, actually, and it will be fine. Once we could get going on it, I think it took us probably three days to build, all told. It still needs the metal roofing, and I bought some dark stain for the outside, but it can’t be applied until

Down to the wire

We got quite a bit done of the chicken palace, I mean coop over the weekend. The weather on Saturday was awful, clear and cold, but really windy, so we didn’t do much outside at all. Sunday was gorgeous, though, and we made real progress pretty quickly. Having two cordless electric drills was a

Fiber Friday evening

We got two(ish) sides of the chicken coop built yesterday afternoon, until the snow started and we had to come in. It was fun to work out there with the critters, who were so curious about what we were doing. I was a little worried that the llamas would object to our cutting off some

Tough week

It is amazing how well Buster Muster is doing. He still looks awful, but is his same-old happy, cheerful self. He lets me check him out whenever I go out there, and since I’m a big old worrywart, that’s a lot. The horn itself, or whatever the flesh that is left is called is

Buster is fine

Thanks for all the emails checking up on him. He looks like he is starring in a horror flick, but he’s up and about, eating and drinking, looking quite frisky. In a week or so, I think I’ll try peroxide on his wool to clean him up. I hesitate to post pictures of him, but to be honest, I wish there was more information out there on the web about injuries and what they look like, things to try. So, I probably will, or at least post a link to where the photos are, and give warning. He’s pretty tough to look at right now.

Horned Houdinis

Oh, Buster, the cutest sheep in all the world, why must you be a Houdini? We came out this morning for chores, to find Buster with a bloody horn and blood all over the side of his face. Frank was headed out for an appointment, of course, but helped me put him into the carrier

Fiber Friday

Frank inspired me today as we were coming in from finishing the morning chores. The wind has really been howling lately and the temps remain in the single digits, and I’ve taken to doubling up everything when I go out, including my hat. He copied me today and said that it really did work, but

Valentine’s Day Blizzard

On Tuesday, we went out to stock up on groceries and stuff, along with the rest of the state, of course. When we got back, there was yet another sheep break-out, which is really frustrating. I think what happened is Bill and George, who are in with the llamas, worked open their gate, which doesn’t

Spinning, and more

I made my second skein of llama yarn yesterday, and this time it just flew. I’m spinning it finer, I think, as I get better. It is definitely more consistent. I did up two bobbins full without a single break in the yarn, and I think I’ve got the hang of the long draw now.

Making Sawdust Again

I took advantage of the nice weather today (20 degrees), to fire up the sawmill for the first time since we got back. If I don’t get going, we’ll have to buy wood for the chicken coop. Kevin had been using the mill, of course, but it was close to 18 months since I had.
