Electronet Grossly Overrated

Last night we put the sheep in an electronet paddock with the idea of moving them when Lisa’s cheese class is done. They stayed there until 11 this morning. Then the fence went down and they came out. I got everyone back in and topped up all the critter’s water. By the time I finished

Coyote Ugly

We brought the sheep home from Marlborough today. They’d gotten out three times in the last week and attacked their hostesses garden. Clearly not okay. And because it was a fencing issue, I had to go. That’s a 2-3 hour trip, and if I do it too often I lose the contract I’m working

Dairy Day

I was backed up on milk, because I wasn’t here last week, so had an extra heavy dairy making sessions today. I made yogurt, strawberry maple ice cream, lemon cheese, and mozzarella, all from raw milk, of course. The pigs love me today, as do the dogs. Frank was able to take a few breaks

Downsizing the garden

I am slowly moving my way through a couple of my flower beds, but it is really slow going after two years of neglect. It is so easy to get so overwhelmed that I just want to quit and start over. I’m trying to stay focused, trying to enjoy it rather than seeing it as

Quick Bee Update

I took a quick look at the bees today, just to make sure everything is doing OK. In three out of four cases it is. First, the executive summary: Wooden frames with real wax foundation totally rule over plastic. This is a pain, because it costs about a dime more to buy the parts for

Back in the Virtual World

Our spiffy new T1 got turned up last week, and I finally found time to move the LAN over today. Yippee, a connection that works. It doesn’t have the download speed of a cable modem, but it is symmetrical, so uploads do actually go at 1.5 megs. Given the number of pictures we post, that’s

Horse Power

Even though I am swamped and busy, if I don’t write this now, it won’t get written, and I want to document my progress. I am just back from attending a four day workshop on farming with draft horses at Fair Wind Farms in Brattleboro, Vermont. It was awesome. Why did I take the class?

Maddening Minx

Remember when I wrote that Minx had gotten out and we weren’t sure whether she’d gotten into the grain or not? We think she must have, even though we had the hay house where it is stored zippered down to just open enough for the chickens to get in, so they could blasted keep laying

Leon vs. Angel

Oh, the times I wish I’d had a video camera with me. We moved the sheep down in Marlborough on Thursday, just up the hill a bit from where they were. They were acting like they were starving starving, but to be honest, we probably should have kept them where they were at least one
