From the department of “How did I not know this?” Squash and cucumbers are “monoecious”, that is, they have separate male and female flowers on the same plants. The zukes started flowering, but kept dropping the flowers. Then suddenly they started having flowers on completely different looking stems that didn’t drop. Oh. How have I missed that for the last 50 years?
