Spring Goes Sproing

Spring is oh so slowly coming. The twice weekly storms are more rain than snow, and I can leave the hose out to water the animals. We had the same temperatures in December, but the December sun was not enough to thaw the hose in the afternoon, while the March sun does.

Retail Therapy

We’ve been pretty lucky, in that we can leave the puppy outside to play for an hour or two without much bother. He mostly hangs out with Misty, and I have got to get a picture of the two of them playing. He will bring her his ball, and she will push it with

Lists

I’m taking a quick lunch break, and there are three million things that have to get done before snow flies, and they ain’t all going to get done. Maybe it will help if we list them. Maybe it will make me want to jump off a bridge to see them all listed, but oh well.

Still building

It seems endless, all this building that we are doing. All week, we’ve been outside working, from before breakfast, right after the morning chores, until the sun goes down and we can’t see the marks on the wood anymore. We’ve either been doing the actual building construction, or running the sawmill to get the

Building, building and more building

The race to beat the snow continues, so we are working outside every minute that the weather will allow. It’s exhausting, but we might be, sort of, maybe making some progress. There is supposed to be freezing rain and snow tomorrow, and we knew it was coming, so we’ve been non-stop on shelter for

Racing Snow, as Usual

We’re deep into building our second sheep shelter. The ones we built three years ago went up faster, but they were smaller and had no floor, which meant they couldn’t be moved later. These have a double floor on 6×6 skids, which doubles the amount of lumber involved although not the build time. Framing

The Dog Days with a Vengeance

This weekend has been hazy hot and humid. The kind you’d much rather spend at the lake. However we got quite a bit done. I actually got the sawmill running Friday night. A new blade finally got it working. We got four logs done, then I had to change the blade again, and it’s

July Already

It’s July first. That’s pretty scary given how much we need to do before snow flies. However, for the first time in a long time it really feels like we accomplished more this weekend than just take care of (and chase) the animals. Yesterday we built half a raised bed. The one we have is

Working in the Rain

Last weekend was the big push to bring the horses home. Jeremy asked Lisa what she wanted for Mother’s Day, and her response was “help”. Since she actually spent Mother’s Day at the New Hampshire Sheep and Wool Festival, he arranged to come over the next weekend. Of course, it then rained hard all day,

Lambing, Shearing, Clearing

What a day we had yesterday. Even this morning, we are still exhausted, and that’s with Valerie coming over to help. We are just absolutely wiped out. We started the day with the first lamb of the season. We went out in the morning to let the chickens out, and Frank came back
