So here’s my idea. I’ve been experimenting with Compost Tea and have a couple of local gardening centers who will let me brew some in their shops to sell. I was thinking of naming it something like "Minnie’s Magic", and asked Mr. Mighty Mangler to draw me Minnie with all of Minerva McGonagall’s trappings, like the hat and magic wand, stirring a cauldron. What do you think? Does it not work if you don’t know about Minnie or is it cute anyway? What if I did a little small booklet with pictures of Minnie on the display? Brainstorm with me, please! I asked Minnie about it today, and she’s all there for becoming a local celebrity. (Compost Tea really is magical stuff. All organic and plants are amazingly healthy when they get some.)

I almost afraid to say it, but we sort of kind of maybe made some progress this weekend. The sheep aren’t happy where they are, but they have lots of room out on the hill, three out of four sides are permanent fencing, and the last side is electronet, but because it’s a straight run,

It’s July first. That’s pretty scary given how much we need to do before snow flies. However, for the first time in a long time it really feels like we accomplished more this weekend than just take care of (and chase) the animals. Yesterday we built half a raised bed. The one we have is

Poor thing. She just hates everyone and everything right now. I’m trying to coddle her as much as I can, to not add to her stress. The current theory with what killed Mary is an overrun of a common bacteria that lives in their respiratory tract, and that can be caused by stress. The vet

I made my second skein of llama yarn yesterday, and this time it just flew. I’m spinning it finer, I think, as I get better. It is definitely more consistent. I did up two bobbins full without a single break in the yarn, and I think I’ve got the hang of the long draw now.

We did a lot today, and I’m exhausted, but if I don’t get it out now, it won’t get written, so I’ll write while the tub fills up, and then we’ll go soak away the aches and pains. We do that a lot, lately. That tub almost belongs in our list of handy farm equipment,

We finally attacked the bed where I want all of the new bulbs to go. I was dreading it, but it wasn’t that bad. We pulled all of the glads and dahlias, and I’m amazed at how great that soil is. This is the new bed I did this spring, with the lasagna method and

We’ve been piling up a lot of our wood chips behind the compost bins, mostly to keep down the weeds in an area that’s really just a utility area at this point. We have the sawmill there, and the compost bins, and I haven’t quite figured out what I’m going to do with it yet. I have a while to figure it out though, because we don’t have anywhere else to put the compost and sawmill yet. But anyway, in those woodchips there is a most curious mushroom growing. It’s got quite the scent – not unpleasant, but distinctive, and they are all through the wood chips. We aren’t sure what it is yet, but it’d be nice to find something yummy that grows in chips, because man do we have wood chips!

Frank still thinks I’m nuts, but I worked my tail off today putting in that new bed where the lilacs I planted aren’t going to make it. I think it is probably twenty feet long, and it entailed much digging up of sod and dirt, hauling of much crap, and generally hard, physical labor. I

I started this year right in the front of the house. The hosta I’d gotten so cheaply from Walmart and potted up were doing so well that I wanted to get them into the ground. I think they could handle even a hard freeze if we get another one, so in they’ll go. I put
