I’m a bit tired of this prolonged winter. The snow was almost gone when we got this recent coldsnap and accompanying snow. The puppy loves it, of course, and I should be used to it, but we have so much to do that needs good weather that I’m getting frustrated. My to-do list just

We finally got out there to pull the glads and the dahlias. We’ve had four or five hard frosts already this year. (Isn’t this early for that? It feels very early.) So we went out after work tonight and ended up working a bit in the dark, but that’s okay. The glads are really reproducing

I’ve been out of town for over a week, and I’ve missed my garden so much. As soon as I got home, Princess, Yoda and I went out to see how it was doing without me, and to see what’s in bloom at this point. I was out in Sacramento and San Francisco where it

I tried to introduce the cats to the catnip plant that I planted earlier this year. I caught Yoda chewing on my clematis earlier in the evening, and I hate to scold him because he’s such a scaredy cat and I don’t want to scare him, but c’mon. Not on my clematis! None of them

Because we spent the majority of the weekend doing stuff out in the new garden, not much got done in the flower gardens at all. So we went out after work today, really just to do a walk-through because we thought the bugs would be awful, and ended up staying outside for a couple of

One of the things I got done this Saturday was planting the stuff from swapping that had come in during the week while I was out of town. I got some Monarda Purple Bea Balm in on the side of the pergola by the chives. I didn’t actually need more bea balm, but since I

I’d been hoping to get another full day of spring clean up in this weekend, because I got so far on Saturday that I was all inspired. Instead, it rained on Sunday, all day long. Hard and cold rain, that I had absolutely no interest in getting out in. Oh well! So much for those

We did a walk about after work today, just to see what’s coming up. There are definite daffs and species tulips all over the place at this point. The cats all had a great time following us around, though mostly they enjoyed playing around with me on the front porch deck, dashing around the sawmill

We both kept ourselves busy with gardening tasks today. We went up north this morning, looking for breakfast and grow bulbs. Breakfast was good, but neither Walmart, K-Mart, nor the pet store in Claremont had a single grow bulb for our shop light fixtures. We should have stocked up better when we saw them all

It was record-breaking hot here today. 99 degrees. We had a hugely productive day, though. We worked ourselves until we were exhausted, but got a huge amount of stuff done in the garden. The cats (both Princess and Yoda) supervised nearly everything we did today, clearly enjoying the weather and the company. They are
