Working after Work

With how rainy the weather’s been this year, we’ve really gotten behind on the chores that need to get done before snow flies. We figure the only way we are going to get through them is to work outside after work if at all possible. Today, it was clear and cold, and we didn’t get

Blooming Bonanza

The June garden is so, so pretty that I can hardly stop taking pictures. So much is in bloom that it’s a veritable bonanza out there for gardenporn right now. After a raining Saturday yesterday, we were really itching for some nice weather, so we could get out there and get stuff done. So even

Busy, Gray Saturday

Finally, a day when it’s not actually raining. Well, not very hard, anyway. There was light drizzle on and off and the sun didn’t actually come out, but we got quite a bit done out there today. The town had their annual plant swap in the morning. I took down some obedient plant, a couple

Party Time

We’re having a party tonight, and the garden feels like it’s ready to show itself off. Of course, with 30 people invited, we were hoping to be able to hold most of the party out on the deck and the garden, and it looks like it’s going to rain any second now, hard. The air

High Spring

I could live out in my garden. It’s so pretty, and there is so much work to do! It’s a bit overwhelming, actually. I’m trying no to get too frustrated with it all, and remember that I do enjoy it. Which I do. But everywhere I look, there’s stuff that must be done asap, and

Yet more chores

Working outside helped my cranky mood today. It’s hard to stay cranky when it looks like this. I got a lot of winterizing done, too. Very productive. Everything that the frost last week killed is cut down. I pulled the dahlias, and have to figure out how to store the bulbs. I cut back all the garden phlox, which was a huge chore because I have so much of it. I brought some of the flowers in for a dried flower arrangement which came out really well. It’s starting to get dark really early already. I made dinner at 6:30 tonight, and it was already pitch black outside. Hard to imagine what it’ll be like when we do the time change at the end of the month.

Oh Glorious Glads

Frank decided that I was too obsessed about the edges where the lawn meets the gravel, and he convinced me to focus instead on the only flower bed I hadn’t yet weeded yet this year, as it was getting away from me. So I hauled an entire trailer load full of weeds from this bed,

Living outside

I just never wanted to come inside the house today. The weather was about as perfect as I could ask for, and I hadn’t been out there weeding all week as I was out of town. I was afraid that the weeds would have taken over, and I was right to be worried! Wow, do

High Summer

Welcome to High Summer! I was a picture-taking fool today, but I can’t help it. The garden is absolutely beautiful right now. Such a change, suddenly. There are tons of colors all over the place, and everything, it seems, is in bloom. My window boxes in particular are all very full, draping down nicely.

Tulips, Daffodils and Iris — All at once

The fish are getting quite brave. We seem to have around 12-14 of them. It’s hard to count the little buggers. But they now come to the surface when we feed them, and if we just go to look at them, they think we’re going to feed them, so they all rush over to
