Whew, it’s hot out there. I am not, however, complaining. We’ve had so much rain (almost 8 inches so far this month alone) that I haven’t been able to really do much in the garden, so I’ll take hot over hot and raining any day. We went out into the garden pretty early this morning,

I’m pretty pleased with how well the vegetables that I planted on the upper balcony are doing. I’ve never grown peas before, and only planted one window box with them, and they did very well and we are eating peas now, which is neat. My plan to have them drape down didn’t go so well,

We harvested our first potatoes today, and they are great. These are All Blue, and they are purple, my favorite color. Overall though, our potato attempt wasn’t that successful. We had planted them in one of the newly de-brushed areas in the future veggie patch, but there was no irrigation out there and it’s been a very dry summer. We tried to remember to water, but with our travel schedule, they sometimes went a week without water. That’s definitely shown up in the yield. We really like the way they taste and look, though, so we want to plan and execute is much better next year. They were a last minute thought this year, and now I’ve got months to think about how to do it better next year.

We’re having a party tonight, and the garden feels like it’s ready to show itself off. Of course, with 30 people invited, we were hoping to be able to hold most of the party out on the deck and the garden, and it looks like it’s going to rain any second now, hard. The air

We were up very early this morning, getting ready for the Garden Tour, and I made a list of the stuff I thought had to be done. We even finished it all in time to go see the houses on the tour before ours, which was surprising. The pond was in fine form, with water

The shade garden thingie I’ve got going in the front of the house is doing really well. Of course, like much of my garden, it’s in prime bloom now, and the garden tour is in a week, but what can I do. It’s pretty, perfect, right now. Columbine, foam flower, bleeding heart, lungwort, hosta, ribbon
