It was supposed to start raining about ten this morning, so we didn’t worry about leaving the sap uncovered to cool. There was half an inch of snow on the ground (and in the sap) at six this morning. One hundred sixty five gallons boiled down to fifteen over the last two days. It’s

Hermione finally had her piglets yesterday, 119 days after coming home from East Hill Farm. Nominal pig gestation is 115 days: She pushed it as hard as she could and of course had them in a snowstorm. The good news is that all is well, six live piglets that she is feeding and looking

It was really hard to motivate myself to get out there and do morning chores this morning. At 7 a.m., it was 11°F with 18 mph winds, steady snow, at about an inch an hour rate. But we bundled up, long johns and double socks underneath my ski suit, and Frank put on

I got Ms. Misty moved one pen over today, and it wasn’t that hard. She really wants to be behind a fence right now, and when I just left the gate open and let her choose to go in with gentle pressure from behind, she walked in. Whew. Having her out the day before

We had ten inches of snow yesterday. That leaves about a foot on the ground and no reason to expect it to melt before April. Mike showed up and plowed, but for some reason didn’t seem to do as much as usual. This gave Lisa a reason to fire up the tractor and do

The snow started today around noon, and it’s now almost eight, and it hasn’t stopped nor slowed down. I bet you we have close to a foot, at least, even though the forecasts kept saying that the storm was going to mostly stay south of us. There’s a Nor’easter planned for this weekend, too,

I’m taking a quick lunch break, and there are three million things that have to get done before snow flies, and they ain’t all going to get done. Maybe it will help if we list them. Maybe it will make me want to jump off a bridge to see them all listed, but oh well.

I’m a bit tired of this prolonged winter. The snow was almost gone when we got this recent coldsnap and accompanying snow. The puppy loves it, of course, and I should be used to it, but we have so much to do that needs good weather that I’m getting frustrated. My to-do list just

On Tuesday, we went out to stock up on groceries and stuff, along with the rest of the state, of course. When we got back, there was yet another sheep break-out, which is really frustrating. I think what happened is Bill and George, who are in with the llamas, worked open their gate, which doesn’t

Last year we called it a year on November 23, because everything was done. This year I’m calling it on December 19th because it’s supposed to snow tonight. Lisa joked last year that we were afraid to stack anymore firewood because we always run out and we didn’t want to see the winter we’d get
