Irrational Exuberance

P8110012.jpgI’ve been gone all week on a business trip, didn’t get home until after two in the morning, so I have no clue why I’m awake at 6:30. Part of it is that I can’t wait to get out into my garden. It was so hot this week and I was gone, so it’s in need of serious attention, and all the weeds are calling my name.

I got the catalog of perennial plugs to place an order for this winter, and I can’t stop thinking about what I want to order, and where I’ll put them all. Can you imagine buying a tray of 70 delphiniums or lupines? Wow, 70 lupines, mass planted … it will look so great. Should I get a tray of hollyhocks too? Where can I put 70 tall flowers like that? It’s had me stumped all morning, and once I started thinking about it, there was no hope of falling back asleep.

P8110014.jpgEvery time I see how well my window boxes are doing, I keep remembering the phrase “irrational exuberance”. I haven’t done very well watering them, Frank hasn’t gotten the irrigation working, and yet they are spilling over the edges, happy as can be.
